    Tips

    August 28, 2021

Since October 15, 2013, the nature association Limburgs Landschap vzw is the happy new owner of the approximately 22 hectare wet and marshy area “De Caetsweyers” in Diepenbeek. In the meantime, we have not been idle and the estate has been extended to 48 ha.

Complex of ponds along the Caetsbeek

On the border of Bilzen, Genk and Diepenbeek, between the municipalities of Caetsbeek and Lutselus, there is a pond and forest area of approximately 40 hectares along the banks of the Caetsbeek. The area is designated as a park zone regionally, but will be established as a nature reserve. The Caetsweyers were recognized as a nature reserve in 2019. The first steps towards ecological redevelopment and opening up can be done via a land development project.

    Future development

The pond complex is currently being extensively renovated.

After the development, the intention is that gadwall, bittern and kingfisher will have an even more enjoyable time in the area. It will also be studied how the area can be opened up without harming the fauna and flora. This still requires some consultation.

Before a major installation can take place, small maintenance work must be carried out on the dikes, such as regular mowing and plugging existing leaks.

Nice segment with the impression of riding in the forest.
