The Fort near the village of Jutphaas was built around 1820 on the old route from Houten to Montfoort. Then the fortress probably got its elongated shape. Later some buildings were added. Among other things, a defensible guardhouse that functioned as a reduit; a last refuge. The fortress served as a defense of a narrow strip of terrain that could not be flooded. The fort was not renovated because the Batteries were built on the Overeindseweg. However, a guard house was built on the site near the access bridge. During the Second World War, the fortress was used as a transmitting station for the German Navy.
