The ice meadow in Oeventrop was created as part of the renaturation of the Ruhr.

Experience climate change up close. The "Eiswiese" in Arnsberg Oeventrop is a project of the city of Arnsberg in cooperation with the Oeventrop Initiative, INO for short. In the course of the renaturation measure there, an extracurricular learning location on the subject of “climate change and water” is to be created. Learning boards, learning stations and a new website help to show the consequences of climate change on our region. At various stations, such as a weather station, selected shrubs and trees, and a blue classroom for water studies, schoolchildren and cycle tourists can actively research the phenomenon of "climate change". The term ice meadow comes from a time when the water on the flooded meadows froze in winter and this ice was then used to cool beer in a nearby cave (source: LEADER sein!)
