The north loop of the Sauerlandring is part of the state project "Alleenradwege on former railway lines" and leads from Wennemen to the Sallinghausen junction. The Finnentrop-Wennemen railway line was originally put into operation in 1911. Until 1966, the 35.5-kilometer route was used for local passenger traffic and until 1996 goods were transported on the route of the "Cardinal Express", popularly known as "Cardinal Express". Since 2007, bicycles have been rolling on the old railway line that forms part of the Sauerlandring.
