Brielle is a historic fortified town with one of the best preserved fortifications in the Netherlands.
Within the fortress walls are the special St. Catharine Church (where William of Orange married Charlotte de Bourbon in 1575) and the interactive museum of the Eighty Years' War, located in the old town hall. Every spot, every facade and every stone carries its own story.

Brielle is located on the Brielse Meer, a dammed section of the Maas that has developed into an important recreational area. It lies to the east of the old shipping channel Brielse Gat. [3] Until 1700 this water was used as a connection to Rotterdam, after which silting up occurred, making the Gat less navigable. The Goereese Gat was an alternative.

Brielle is a beautiful fortified town. It is definitely worth visiting. Visit the shops, the national monuments. Walk over the rampart. Or better… feel free to stroll through all the streets.
