After crossing Eel Creek biking along Redwood Highway (coastal Hwy 1) is turning into a split multi-lane freeway. If you reach this overlook and info station you should definitively take the next exit to get onto the parallel but much more interesting old road, the Avenue of the Giants. The map here provides a good overview of the cool sites along the route. After you exit onto it there will be another info post with free paper maps describing the details of those highlights.
