This is the northern beginning of the Avenue of the Giants, the old Redwood Highway, while the nearby parallel new coastal Hwy 1 is turning into a split multi-lane freeway that misses all the highlights. The info post here has a large info panel like the next 8 stops (each with different specific info) and a brochure box providing free 2-page paper maps describing the details of those highlights. Note, while the map has North on the top as usual, the stops are numbered from south to north maybe because most people arrive from the South, so read them from the bottom up ;-)

Avenue of the Giants. We rode it by bike and wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Since the freeway runs parallel, it was relatively quiet and not very busy with cars. If you are in the area: an absolute must!

This 2.4-mile nature trail is one of the most beautiful trails in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Many photographic opportunities can be found along this redwood forest trail. As you walk the cool, shady path, you'll spot a bench dedicated to Ralph W. Chaney for rediscovering the Dawn Redwood in China in 1948 and bringing the seeds to the United States.
