"In 1900 the council of Döbeln decided to build a new, representative town hall. The old building, the adjoining town hall and four residential buildings were demolished in May 1910. This created the freedom to build the new town hall in Döbeln. On May 30, 1910, the foundation stone was laid and After only two years of construction, the new town hall was officially consecrated on October 14, 1912.

The new town hall was an urban masterpiece. The angular building, the 59 m high tower in Baroque form, the high Renaissance gables and steep tiled roofs as well as the sculptural decoration characterize the town hall and make it an unmistakable building. The town hall not only dominates the Obermarkt, but also shapes the silhouette of the city together with the Nicolaikirche.
