Memorial plaque on the former, historic Braunhauser tunnel. This was built in 1875 and later demolished because of the electrical changeover of the railway.
Approx. 350 meters uphill you come to the erected tunnel monument. Here, too, a lot is reported about the former tunnel on an information board.

The Braunhäuser Tunnel was a 293 m long railway tunnel and was built from 1873 to 1875. When the line was electrified in 1961, the tunnel was slit open and one side was removed so that rail traffic could continue to run on a single track. In May 1962, heavy rains caused a landslide in the new escarpment, and the entire route was buried. The embankment was then flattened and finally the 1 m thick brick masonry was blown up.
Electrical operation began in spring 1963.
Today only a fragment of the portal and a monument made of stones from the former south portal bear witness to the tunnel - the latter bears the inscription "1873–1875 - Braunhäuser Tunnel - removed in 1962".
