The almost undeveloped Kühkopf today forms the "Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue" nature reserve together with the Knoblochsaue to the north and a few smaller islets in the Old Rhine. The Kühkopf alone accounts for around 1,700 hectares of the 2,440 hectare nature reserve. The island can be reached via two bridges.

The apple tree path leads through the meadows directly to the ferry station in Guntersblum.
During the summer season from April to October, on Sundays and public holidays, a ferry runs from the Guntersblum jetty across the Rhine to the Kühkopf and to Erfelden. The timetable is irregular, so it is advisable to inquire beforehand with the operator, König Gunther Passenger Shipping in Guntersblum (Tel. 06249/8731). Bicycles and dogs are also transported on the passenger ferry for a fee.
