Monte Prado, or Prato, (2054m a.s.l.) is located on the major watershed of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, halfway between Passo Pradarena and Passo Radici. This area has been included in the Parco dell'Alto Appennino Reggíano (Parco del Gigante) since 1988, due to its high naturalistic value.
The local climate is poorly documented. The average annual temperature is around 5'C and the average rainfall is around 200Omrn. Precipitation is mostly snow and occurs between November and April, while the snow melts from May until the beginning of summer, depending on the differences in topography and exposure.
