In Lommel, don't just hang around but go...
The summer temperatures are on our side...
A perfect day to venture into the Sahara.
Sporty as we are, we park and start at the De Soeverein Sports Complex.
We discover Boeiend Bosland in a playful way. From the Woonhuis along the Tipi to then complete the experience route through the Tunnel at the Heksenkring.
Smoothde Slang points us in the right direction.
And then you are there on the large Lommel Sahara beach. The temptation is great, but DON'T LOOP AROUND but keep going...
In the company of other two-legged and four-legged animals, we walk barefoot along the waterline to then experience 'The High Point' in the Sahara. Step by step and step by step we reach the 30-metre-high viewing platform. A wide view, a mosaic of green, yellow and blue spots is the reward at this height limit.
At the S-shaped artificial bridge we enjoy some cooling down before diving back into the Sahara. We continue as Gentlemen, but slightly hunched due to the scorching heat, along the Herentals – Bochelt canal.
We pause for 1 minute at the abandoned grave of a fallen unknown British soldier from WW2.
Carefully and crouched we cross the old ‘Shooting Field of the Sahara’. Fortunately, the old training ground is no longer operational. It is nice to see how nature has overcome the remains of the explosive violence over the years. Along forest paths we search for and find the large water surface and De Soeverein.
Tip: A must to do before noon.
Then the Sahara is not so warmed up yet.
Don't loiter but go...

The Sahara lives up to its name: the large sand plain resembles a miniature desert. But there are also clear blue lakes, strips of heather and fragrant coniferous and deciduous forests. The picturesque landscapes and the enormous variety make a walk here a unique experience. Many birds have found homes on and around the water. In winter it is a bivouac for grebes, ducks and swans.

Very well described, all of the major attraction in our beautiful Lommel.
But .... also walk around the sand pit behind the marina in Lommel colony ... where you can also enjoy something tasty in brasserie " de Meerpaal". Recommended 👍👍👍
