Ford Castle dates from about 1278. It was captured and partially destroyed by the Scots in 1385 but re-built and re-fortified. In 1694 the conversion to a Tudor style mansion was completed keeping some of the castle’s fortifications but making it into a more luxurious home. It was re-built again in the late 1700's in a gothic style. More recently the castle was the home of a wealthy coal miner and then leased to Northumberland council. It's now a residential home for young people’s adventure activities.
It's a grade 1 listed building.
