In 1898 the statue was erected in Bonn at the forerunner of the Kennedy Bridge. After the Second World War it was considered lost and was only rediscovered in 1979. The memorial was erected here on the Rhine dyke to celebrate the 2000th anniversary of the founding of Bonn.
