The Johanneskirche in Hennen, a district of Iserlohn in the Märkischer Kreis (North Rhine-Westphalia), is an impressive listed church building with historical significance. Built around 1200, this church is characterized by a cruciform hall, which was later extended by a west tower. Its masonry consists of green sandstone and green glauconite, which gives it a striking appearance. The nave is divided into two bays, and the transept has groin vaults. Particularly noteworthy is the seven-part choir apse with three windows, which underlines the stylistic character of the building.Inside, the church houses valuable ornamental paintings from the early 13th century, attributed to the Soest School, discovered in 1875 and restored in 1954. These works of art contribute significantly to the historical and cultural significance of the Johanneskirche. The Hennen parish is active and diverse, with a long history that goes back to the Middle Ages. The community lives out its faith in various services, groups, circles and choirs, making St. John's Church a vibrant center of community life. For hiking and cycling enthusiasts, the area surrounding St. John's Church offers attractive routes that explore the idyllic Ruhr meadows. These tours are an excellent way to experience the natural beauty of the region and the historic ambience of St. John's Church.
