The Kastrupfortet was built in 1886-1887 and its cannons could fire about 11 km. Together with the "Middelgrundsfortet", the battery was supposed to prevent enemy ships from entering Copenhagen. The facility consists of large walls surrounded by water and an open cannon position (today space for table and benches). In 1922 the fort was abandoned. During the Second World War, the Germans used the site again for military purposes, after the war German civil prisoners were housed here. Now used as a park, listed as a historical monument in 1969. Today there is also a restaurant and a playground.
