More than 100 years ago, the people of Frankfurt made their way to Steinbach to sit together at the Äppler. How did the connection come about? Well, that could have something to do with the slightly curious territorial conditions of that era. Like many other towns in its vicinity, Frankfurt was annexed by the Prussians in 1866. Steinbach, which belongs to the Grand Duchy of Hesse, remained a Hessian exclave. The Äppelwoi bridge over the Steinbach is a reminder of this old bond.
