Gropada is a district of the municipality of Trieste and one of the oldest villages in the Trieste Karst. Located about 6km east of the city, it is 397–406m above sea level. and has about 300 inhabitants.

Hiking

Nice and classic little Karst Village with trail to climb the little hill above called Monte dei Pini in Italian or Goli Vrh in Slovenian. From the top of the hill you have a nice view on Nanos, Vremščica and Snežnik mounts that during winter time are often covered by snow.

Hiking

Small rural town grouped around the church of San Rocco, built in the sixteenth century as an ex voto following one of the epidemics that hit the plateau. It is one of the oldest villages in the Trieste Karst, mentioned for the first time in a document dated 1278. The monument to the Resistance and a typical recently built karst well are located in the central clearing.
