Tarvisio on the Alpe-Adria Cycle Path is not a beautiful city, but it is a special one. Located in the border triangle between Austria, Slovenia and Italy, at the intersection of several trade routes, it has experienced a lot in its history, which goes back to Roman times. Until 1918, what is now the Italian city of Tarvisio belonged to Austria-Hungary. Until then, the population was predominantly German-speaking, with a Slovene-speaking minority. Today the place has four official languages: Italian (Tarvisio), German (Tarvis), Friulian (Tarvis) and Slovenian (Trbiž).
