The area from the Ruhla city exit to this point is called "Alte Ruhl" because it was the location of the initial settlement in Ruhla. Like the village of Glasbach in the immediate Rennsteig area
the ridge height of the mountains it was a scattered settlement and existed from about the 12th to the 14th century. (... from information board)
