The large city park, which is located on the slope of the mountain facing the city, has a history that goes back more than a hundred years. On May 5, 1884, Scheibenberg's mayor Kegler (in office from 1881 to 1913) had 114 school children plant 150 trees. That was the beginning of the park. In 1926, the memorial to the dead of the First World War was erected in the park.

A basalt column from the Scheibenberg quarry forms the basis for this memorial in the city park in honor of the citizens of the city who died in the First World War. The war memorial was inaugurated on July 4, 1926. It bears a disc made of light stone with a relief of the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus, as well as the inscriptions "To the living as a warning" (left) and "To the dead as an honor" (right) in metal letters.
