Onderdendam - Statue of a bargeman's wife on a towline
In the village center, near the Zijlvester Bridge over the Boterdiep canal, stands this statue of a bargeman's wife towing a barge.
The towline bears the inscription:
"Well see woman, hold her back,
keep her in sight,"
a bargeman
and put her on a leash.
"He who loves his wife keeps her in sight," said the bargeman,
and put her on a leash.
The monument "The Little Hunter" on the Uiterdijk in Onderdendam depicts a female bargeman at a towline. It was created by Fred Mennens from Roodeschool.
