The Abeek was dug by order of the government in 1865. Until the first half of the 19th century, the entire spacious area was marshland. The Abeek and other drainage channels are now the habitat of many beavers. Trees are regularly killed here under their gluttony. Witness to this are the fallen trees... Just enjoy

The name says it all: here you (also) walk a long way along the Abeek with a fairly varied landscape and the well-known beaver tracks. The Abeek rises in Wijshagen on the Donderslagse Heide and then flows northwards. In the low plain of Bocholt it is supplemented by numerous streams and has an influence on nature reserves in this region such as De Luysen, Stamprooierbroek, Grootbroek and De Zig.
