The chapel is dedicated to St. Appolonia, the patroness of dentists. According to popular belief, it helps with toothache.
The Zahnwehkapelle has been a local pilgrimage site for 200 years - admittedly one of the smallest pilgrimage chapels.
It belongs to the Rappeneckhof, which was probably created from a previous mountain cattle hut.
In the years before 1750, the Herder of that time is said to have lost the cattle that ran away during a thunderstorm. After days of searching in vain, the herder vowed to build a chapel on the spot where he would find the cattle.

The Apollonia Chapel stands below the Rappeneckerhof. Since Saint Apollonia is also the patron saint of dentists, this chapel is also called "Toothache Chapel".
