The path up to the waterfall is the most beautiful section of the Ebenauer Mühlenwanderweg. On the way there are several old mills worth seeing. You can also swim at the waterfall.

The 50 m high waterfall and the five mills on the Rettenbach seem like a small open-air museum. Until the 1960s, grain was ground here. On small trails you can explore the mills and the watercourse with its natural pools. The highlight is the waterfall, also and especially in winter, when bizarre ice formations form.

The Rettenbach has cut deeply here from Hinterschroffenauer plateau, and digs through a gorge about half a kilometer long. There it forms a waterfall and numerous pools, over which the total of 50 meters high case pours in several cascades, and at the end then falls 25 meters free in a charming pond. The Plötz is known as a natural bath.
