Lonely hike, through a wonderful forest with a great view over the Adige Valley
July 18, 2017
At 643 meters, the Wilde-Mann-Bühel is certainly not a real mountain peak. However, its summit protrudes so far out of the Montiggler Forest that from up here you have a beautiful view of the Überetsch and the Mendelkamm. A walk there is definitely worthwhile. Attention: the ascent to Wilder-Mann-Bühel is not suitable for pushchairs.

A legend tells that a wild man of enormous size and strength lived in the hut, whom people far and wide were only called the “Montiggler Wilde”. There are several legends about him: One tells that an old woman went to the Montiggler Forest to collect brushwood. But before the little mother noticed it, the sun went down, and the night surprised her: She never returned. Nobody dared go out that night, but when the next morning people went into the forest to look for the old woman, they found her remains on the Wilder Mann Bühel near the hut of the monster. The savage had eaten them (suedtirolerland.it)
