On the Bossuit-Kortrijk Canal, the ships in Moen initially went underground for a while: they had to go through a tunnel of 611 meters. During works on the canal in the 1970s, the tunnel was replaced by an open channel. This yielded 225,000 trucks of clay, which were dumped on an agricultural field next to the canal.
In 1988, the 26 hectare area was transferred to the Agency for Nature and Forests and in 2001 it was opened to the public. You can now go for a walk in a beautiful and diverse green area, including forests, meadows, ponds and bushes. You can explore the forest with the Orveyt walking route or the 'Land van Mortagne' walking network. For children there is the family-friendly quest 'Out and about with Blob'.
