Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, Bad Saulgau
In the place of today's parish church, which is dedicated to the patrons Johannes Baptist, Johannes Evangelist and Andreas, there was already a church from the 11th/12th. Century a significantly smaller predecessor church. In the middle of the 13th century the construction of the current church (choir and tower) began in the course of the city's development; the Romanesque sound openings in the tower still bear witness to this. The further late Gothic expansion and conversion to today's form with an enlarged, three-aisled nave and a raised tower took place in several stages and was completed in the first third of the 15th century.

The balustrade on the porch (built by architect Herkommen) replaced the original hipped roof in 1925. The Gothic furnishings still include the high altar paintings from around 1410 (now in the Stuttgart State Gallery, possibly by a master from Ulm), the processional cross from around 1340 from a Konstanz workshop, the weather blessing and a tower monstrance from around 1500. During the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) the church suffered major damage from robbery and destruction. In the 18th century the interior was given a baroque makeover, which was completed in 1764.

The church is said to have been built by Emperor Ludwig the Pious in 814, and in 819 the existing church was donated to the monastery in Buchau and placed under its special protection. The abbess of Buchau was the patron saint of the church and of St. Antonius from 819-1803. It can be assumed that it is a Carolingian hall church. A larger Romanesque church was built between 1275 and 1280, as evidenced by the lower part of the church tower and the adjacent choir walls on the side. Around 1400, the church was expanded to its current shape and size, and the altar was consecrated in the newly built choir on February 18, 1402. The building was completed around 1450 with the construction of the vestibule on the west side.
