Description according to information board:
"The Katharinabrunnen first supplied water to the nearby Hunburg, built by Carolingians in the 8th century, and later, until 1925, the inhabitants of Burgholz got their drinking water, but also the water for their cattle, from the well and carried it with a yoke. where two buckets hung, home.
In winter, in heavy frost, the water in the well became scarce. The well was therefore kept under lock and the water rationed for the population. In 1779, the Katharinabrunnen was vaulted. It is unclear whether the Katharinabrunnen got its name from the castle-wife >> Katharina << or from the patron saint of the church in Burgholz, St. Catherine. "
