The moated castle, also called Bettendorf's castle after the barons of Bettendorf. A gallery in the castle park with contemporary African sculptures and changing exhibitions can be discovered here.

The castle was first mentioned by name in 1369 and came into the possession of the barons of Bettendorf in the 15th century. After the castle was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, it was rebuilt in 1665. In 1823 the largely dilapidated building was demolished and a chapel was built on it. Today there is a gallery in the former residential building and in the palace garden, in which African sculptures and changing exhibitions by African artists are shown.

You drive past it so often in your car and have no idea what a loving gem is there. I have never seen so many sculptures in such a small space. Be sure to look at it and enjoy it.

At the end of the village of Gauangelloch near Heidelberg, in the middle of a rural idyll, there is what was once a small water castle from the 15th century. Large sculptures made of 2.6 billion year old volcanic stone, the serpentine stone, gather around this beautifully restored building in the so-called castle garden. This sculpture park is one of the world's largest collections of Shona sculptures, named after the largest population in Zimbabwe
