The neo-Gothic St. Petri Church Altona with twin tower was built in 1883 as a further new church for the rapidly growing parish of Altona, here in the area of the city expansion from 1848. It was designed by the architect Johannes Otzen, one of the most important protagonists of the Hanover School in Hamburg and Altona. He had previously planned the St. John's Church in Altona.
The St. Petri Church survived the Second World War almost unscathed.
