The town on the mountain, 365 m high, is a popular excursion destination with a wonderful view. The charm of the historic town of Amöneburg is underlined by narrow half-timbered streets, remains of the former castle and other fortifications, as well as the large collegiate church, which is illuminated in the evenings. The silhouette of Amöneburg, the town on the mountain, which was formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity, is a popular photo subject in all seasons. From up here you can take in wonderful views of the wide countryside and see a total of 36 different places. The historic old town is not only surrounded by a wonderful circular wall path for walkers, but also by one of the oldest nature reserves in Hesse. The steep walls with columnar basalt are a geological feature that is particularly worth seeing.
