One of the largest raised bogs in Hesse. Drainage was once intended to create pastureland here. This plan was abandoned after some time.
The Schweinsberg Moor has been a nature reserve since 1977 and shows what flora used to look like in Central Europe. The mammoth, woolly rhinoceroses and reindeer were guests here in earlier times. Today it is migratory birds passing through and waterfowl that frolic here. The moor is mainly covered with reeds.

I imagined a moor differently. I would have loved to have jumped in!
