For centuries, ships have been ferried across with a pull. From the polder to the then Zuiderzee. This was important for trade: the transport of, among other things, vegetables to Amsterdam and countries along the Baltic Sea. This pull has been electric since 1923. Ultimately, the Overhaal lost its function and fell into disrepair. It has been restored and preserved with subsidies and volunteers. Nowadays it serves as a barge and boat lift for recreation.
