Christian Friedrich von Kalebuz gained fame by the fact that his corpse is not decayed until today, although no Mumifizierungsverfahren were applied. According to legend, the reason for this lies in the punishment of God for a murder committed by the knight Kahlbutz in 1690. In revenge he is said to have killed the fiancé of his maid because she refused him the "right of the first night". In court he swore, "If I have been the murderer, then God willing, my corpse should never decay."
