The stone gate has been the symbol of the city of Anklam for centuries. Mentioned for the first time in the city register as early as 1404, it was probably the first stone city gate to be built in Anklam. For a long time it formed the entrance to the old and once mighty Hanseatic City of Anklam. This 32 m high brick Gothic gate is the only remaining one of a total of 6 city gates of the medieval Anklams fortifications.
