In the valley of the Kemmlitzbach ("Rummliche") between Börtewitz and Kemmlitz there was a kaolin deposit with a width of 700 meters and a length of 200-300 meters. The kaolin thicknesses were between 5-25 meters. After the first discoveries of the “white earth” around 1884, the mining of raw kaolin began here in 1920 in the tunnel. The deepening of the shafts was hardly possible due to strong water. The central part served as the first open-cast kaolin mine from 1928. In 1957, funding in civil engineering ended. The “Karl Marx” open-cast mine was then operated until 1972. The remaining open pit is still used as an industrial settling basin today. The turbidity of the water is caused by the introduction of the finest kaolin clay minerals. Today the "Silbersee" is used as a fishing water.

The deposits in the Kemmlitz - Börtewitz - Querbitzsch area have been largely dismantled for 160 years. Today's deposits are located north of Kemmlitz.
