Once there were trains from all over the world, but today city history is up close: in the former Dammer station, a city museum was established in 1991 and opened a year later. It starts with the oldest boardwalk in the world over Stone Age and Bronze Age tombs, the Dersaburg and the centuries-long territorial dispute of the Prince-Bishops of Osnabrück and Münster to Damme. The development of the Dammer Carnival since the Middle Ages as well as especially the "Dammer Carnival Society of 1614" not only sets folklore interesting accents.
