The Gleißental is an incision a little over eight kilometers long and around 25 meters deep from the Deininger Weiher in the south to the Oberhachingen district of Deisenhofen in the north. There it goes over into the valley of the Hachinger Bach. The Gleißental came into being towards the end of the Würm Ice Age, around 20,000 to 14,000 years ago as a result of the runoff of the meltwater from the Isar-Loisach glacier. The valley is a glacial drainage channel of the then Eglinger Glacier Finger, which in turn came from the Wolfratshausen glacial basin. The current discharge of the Deininger Weiher was the former glacier gate of the Wolfratshausen glacial basin and today marks the beginning of the valley. Nowadays, a run, a hike or a bike tour through the Gleißental is a real recommendation!
