Special place. One of the Gelderland wars took place here. A brother of the Count of Guelders rebelled against him and promised the peasants freedom if they wanted to fight for him. The farmers therefore called it the "free war". After the peasants' army had advanced in vain to Arnhem (Arnhem closed the gates) and the count of Gelre had gained time to also call an army under arms with other nobles, a decisive battle took place here near Loenen in that "free war". Hence the name "Vrijenberg". The peasants lost and remained serfs ...
