Barr was first mentioned in documents in the year 788 as Barru, but the settlement of the region has been archaeologically proven since the Bronze Age. First, Barr was a Reichsdorf, but was pledged on June 6, 1409 by King Ruprecht to the Palatinate, along with Heiligenstein, Gertweiler, Goxweiler, Oberburgheim and Niederburgheim.
