There has been a bridge here since at least the 16th century. That was replaced with a beautiful stone archway bridge in 1764 and this was washed away in the storms of December 2015. The new bridge was finished in May 2020 and opened in October 2020.
The local town takes it's name from the bridge over the river Eamont at the northern end of Ullswater. It's a popular tourist spot with a ferry service and several shops and pubs. The Pooley Bridge Inn nearby has rooms and serves food, drinks and snacks with a nice view. It's open 12:00 - 22:00 every day with food served 12:00 - 20:30.

Beautiful spot to stop for a breather and to take some pics. Very busy at weekends though so best visited during the week especially if you want to include a coffee stop.
