Probably the most beautiful connection between the Harburg district of Eißendorf and the city center of the district is the idyllic Göhlbachtal. On foot or by bike you can either decide directly for the green area or take the street of the same name. It is lined with beautiful old half-timbered houses that date back to when Eißendorf was still a farming village. Its original center was in today's Göhlbachtal. The first settlement, from which Eissendorf finally emerged, began in this valley. People settled here because the creek and the surrounding land offered good living conditions for them and their animals. By 1905, the number of residents had almost quadrupled within 20 years. Five years later Eissendorf was incorporated into Harburg. However, the Eißendorfers insisted on maintaining their own bird shooting, which had a long tradition here. At the end of the 1920s, the park was redesigned by the Hamburg garden architect Friedrich Hölscher as a public green space. Today, of course, real birds have not been shot for a long time, rather you can now observe numerous waterfowl in the Göhlbachtal green area. They feel particularly comfortable around the Lohmühlenteich, which is fed by the small Göhlbach. You can take a walk around the pond under the shady trees, relax on one of the many benches or lie comfortably in the sun on the lawn. In the direction of Harburg's city center, the green area has been beautifully designed, with several wooden bridges spanning the Lohmühlengraben. The hilly lawns are used by children to romp around.
Following the course of the stream, past the Lohmühlenteich, the Göhlbachtal continues along allotments and fields and then connects to the New Harburg Cemetery. Taken together, these green areas represent one of the landscape axes that all together supply the center of Harburg with fresh air. These connected open spaces extend from all sides from the open landscape into the densely populated urban areas and not only ensure a better climate there, but also connect natural habitats.
