On December 13, 2011, the Swiss lynx male Juro was released in the Hintergebirge, in the Kalkalpen National Park. Only a few months earlier, the lynx Freia, also from Switzerland, had been relocated to the Kalkalpen National Park. The strictly protected lynx, both of reproductive age, should provide for offspring, the members of the working group lynx Upper Austrian Limestone Alps hoped. However, everything turned out differently and both animals were killed in the municipality of Weyer.

Now a memorial on the Hintergebirgsradweg, exactly at the place where lynx Juro was released, reminds of the shooting of the two forest cats, which Franz Sieghartsleitner from the Kalkalpen National Park describes as "disgusting".

A life-size lynx sculpture was created in the workshop of the Czech metal designer Karel Bures on behalf of the National Park administration and private donors. It was set up as a permanent reminder of the sad events.
