The church walls were built of fieldstones, and their current form comes from the original structure. In the first half of the 16th century, the church fell into the hands of the Protestants. This denomination so decisively dominated the villagers that when the church returned to Catholic ownership in 1654, the Catholics were no longer there. The lack of faithful led to neglect and the building slowly fell into ruin. The destruction was completed by a fire in 1856.
