Vaprio d'Adda is the first town to meet along the Adda cycle path (Martesana canal) after Cassano d'Adda (about 6 km). It is one of the many villages along the stretch of the river that has seen a particular development since the times of the early Renaissance with the villa Melzi d'Eril, just overlooking the towpath, in that living room for two years Leonardo da Vinci, the house of guardian of the waters, right on the Adda embankment which was intended as the "royal house" for the control of the passages on the river for the payment of duties. Further on, the Castelbarco villa (in the photo the mill wheel on the towpath). Then we have some historical factories such as the Velvis cotton mill (in the photo) of the Visconti di Modrone and the Sottrici Bindi paper mill, born in 1800 in the middle of industrial development, also due to the proximity of the Adda river.
