Surselva Dairy and Salaplauna Monastery Farm

Disentis is always worth a trip.

The monastery of Disentis built new buildings for its farm in 2009, planned by the renowned architect Gion A. Caminada from Vrin, because the farm is more than a simple farm: show farm, regional agricultural center, showpiece project for sustainable management. One wants to be a counter-model "for the industrialized purpose relationship of nature and culture, of man and animal".
On a public footbridge you can walk through the stable - great thing, not only for children (if the cattle is in the barn and not in the pasture)!Integrated is the dairy of the upper Surselva, where there are fine mountain cheese. Good for long-distance hikers: even outside the opening hours, there is a "cheese showcase" for self-service.
