The new lift was opened in 1962 and has a trough length of 90 m with a width of 12 m and 3 m water depth. The useful size is 85 m × 11.40 m × 2.50 m (effective length × useful width × draft). These dimensions allowed the then emerging European ship passage.
Technically speaking, the new elevator has the same construction principle as the old one, but the construction has been simplified. The number of floats in 52.5 m deep shafts has been reduced to two to compensate for the trough weight of 5000 t and a sub-level is eliminated because the trough and posture gates are designed as hinged gates (they turn downwards). The spindles are located in four separate towers, on a connecting elevator scaffold was omitted.
The new lift soon became too small for the requirements of canal shipping. In 1989, for example, the current savings lock with a length of 190 m, a width of 12 m and a drumming depth of 4 m was built next door.
The new elevator was used until December 2005, then shut down due to technical problems. A re-commissioning is questionable for cost reasons, especially since the port of Dortmund no longer has the freight volume of earlier days. If, however, - as in spring 2006 - problems or maintenance work on the modern lock, the port of Dortmund can no longer be called.
In order to fight for the preservation of the lift, a sponsorship association has since been established. He would like to receive the hoist not only as a building, but also in a serviceable condition.

A visit to these monuments of industrial history is always worthwhile, not only for technology fans. Canal shipping has contributed significantly to our modern life, as it has made it possible to transport goods and manufactured goods in ever-increasing demand. If you visit this highlight, you should not miss the rest of the fascinating Lock Park Waltrop, here are many other highlights on a visit and offer attractions and opportunities for rest.

This highlight is not the old boat lift Henrichenburg, but fits the position to:Sluice Park Waltrop / Old Sluice Henrichenburg (1914-1989) / Underwater
    with mooring Viking ship "Asgard"

This highlight is exactly the same in terms of position
Lock Park Waltrop / Land's End - promontory in the upper water, but in name it is
Sluice Park Waltrop / Oberwasser with historic lift bridge, on which you have from the highlight position but view. Position but still wrong in terms of navigation. The upper water with a historical lift bridge can be approached from the outside of the museum area on the left side of the canal.

    Another duplicate, which is actually:
Schleusenpark Waltrop / Old Schachtschleuse Henrichenburg (1914-1989)
This highlight is not based on the position of the old ship lift, but is positioned at the bottom of the old shaft lock, which is now accessible as a footpath between former upper water and underwater. In underwater, the nationally known Viking ship "Asgard" has its berth.A visit to these monuments of industrial history is always worthwhile, not only for technology fans. The old Henrichenburg ship lift from 1899 and the new one from 1962 are only a few hundred meters apart and belong to the Henrichenburg canal stage on the federal waterway Dortmund-Ems-Kanal in Waltrop-Oberwiese.

Can be used as a starting point to drive along the canal. When arriving by car there is a large parking lot available.

The old elevator was supplemented in 1914 by a shaft lock with twice five saving ponds. In the years 1958 to 1962 they built the new float-lifting, so that 1969 followed the decommissioning of the old elevator. The old manhole lock was replaced in 1989 by a savings lock with two saving tanks. Until 2005, the operation of the new elevator and the new lock was running in parallel. Since then, the shipping traffic flows only through the lock. All four structures are part of the lock park Waltrop.

A beautiful route and interesting building from the Wilhelmine Empire. Great construction site that has been going on for years. Can not get through. The way is virtually cut off (as of 12.10.2019)
