It crosses the Dortmund-Ems Canal between the old and new ship lift Henrichenburg.
In 1899, the first bridge over the newly built Dortmund-Ems Canal was completed. The construct was made of iron with a wooden decking. The namesake for this bridge was Josef Lucas, whose inn and sawmill were located near the bridge. Due to the growing traffic volume, a new bridge was built in 1933. This was wider, had abutments and had a concrete carriageway. In 1945, towards the end of the Second World War, the bridge was blown up by the German Wehrmacht in order to make the advance of the American troops more difficult. The fact that various bombing damaged the canal so much that it had leaked to a depth of one meter made it possible for residents to use a narrow wooden walkway as an emergency bridge. After the canal was put back into operation, in 1946, as a makeshift, a Bailey bridge was mounted. This was replaced in 1949 by the present bridge.
This bridge was originally built for the Russian campaign to cross the Dniester, Dnepr or the Volga. Since she was not used, she camped at the end of the war on the grounds of Klöckner. After removing a center piece to accommodate the width of the channel, it was released on February 25, 1949 for traffic.
The Lukasbrücke has been a listed building since March 2016.
In June 2016, the New Waterways Office in Datteln announced that it was planned in the course of the expansion of the Rhine-Herne Canal to demolish the Luke Bridge in 2022.

(The following description refers to the original location and name of the highlight "Castroper Straße")
This highlight is definitely an absolute "low light" for cyclists in view of the heavy traffic. The only consolation for cycling "bio-active filters": you often make much faster progress than the queue of cars and trucks next door.
Recently you can't seem to change or correct the names of Highlight yourself, otherwise I might have made Ca(ta)strop(h)er Straße out of it ;-)
Addendum: the standalone editing seems to be working again, but let's stick with the official name anyway!
