To the north-west of Kampen, at the north end of the Red Cliff and in the middle of the dunes is the cross-brand fire Red Cliff. The octagonal clinker brick building was used from 1913 to 1975 to support the Kampen beacon. He was supposed to warn seafarers about a sandbar in the entrance to Lister Tief. Today, the cross-brand fire is no longer in operation, but it is a well-known symbol of the island of Sylt.
